Memphis International Airport - Inbound Road

Memphis International Airport - Inbound Road Pickering provided design for Inbound Road and associated connections including the new West Gate Access Road into the SIDA (AOA). This project is the third phase of completely revamping the airport entrance. It features free-flowing access into the airport by removing an existing signal, significant parking lot reconstruction, reconfigured taxi holding lot, cell phone waiting lot, new entrance road to the Radisson Hotel, landscaping and irrigation for the entire area north of the existing parking garage and a grade separation tunnel with architecturally finished retaining walls. The project was designed using MicroStation GeoPak to TDOT standards and converted to Auto CADD for the clients records.

Design scope included:

  • Horizontal and Vertical Geometry
  • Subsurface Utility Engineering
  • New 12-inch Sanitary Sewer
  • New 10-inch Water Main
  • Grading and Drainage
  • Relocation of Extensive Utilities
  • Roadway Lighting
  • Overhead and Roadside Signage
  • Pavement Markings
  • Extensive Traffic Control Plans
  • Erosion Control
  • Grade Separation Structure (Tunnel)
  • Tow Retaining Walls totaling 675 feet

This project also includes quantities determination and full specifications.

On March 4, 2008, the firm received a Merit Award at the ACEC state-level competition in the transportation category of the 2008 Annual Engineering Excellence Awards of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC).
